How important is the Parking brake?
Looking at doing a disc Brake conversion on a ford 9".
I have a couple choice. Cable or Electronic.

Running a Automactic
Personnly I want to run linelocks at the diff.

Any Help?

Most offroad events that tech your vehicle won't let you run without one. It's good idea however you decide to go.

The line locks are a great idea, i have a friend that left his on, and forgot to release them and destroyed his transfer case. Now he has a chime so he knows they are on !!

Just get all the ford explorer disc stuff. It'll come with a parking brake inside the disc. A couple guys were recently killed because their Jeep flew off a cliff when then auto tranny failed to stay in park and the e-brake didnt work.

I was surfing the web and found some conversion setups. I changed my brakes on my truck a while ago, the rotors fit my bolt pattern 5x5.5 just need to machine the outer axle some, so they fit inside. The website below turned my onto some calipers. Went shopping at the "Man Mall" (Pick and Pull) found a couple calipers.

Just needed some time off now to fit everything together.

Parts so far
ford bigbearing 9in $50 70"w/w narrowed to 58" w/w
Bronco axles $35
Rotors free
Calipers and backing plate, parking cables $50

I have the ford 9" with disc brakes and the parking brake inside and it works good, but I am still gonna go and install a micro lock type at some point in time, because the parking brakes are not as good as I want. I have been parked at some crazy angles and I dont want to take chances. plus my kid has kicked the 5 spd outta gear before, and the p-brake was letting the jeep slowly crawl down the hill... I was leaning on the jeep at the time, so no biggie. I would'nt leave my kid in the jeep if I wasnt right there.

I went to a line-lock on the front brakes when I disc'd the rear Dana 60. With the CJ-7 rotors up front and Hydroboost - it's not going anywhere.

Usually leave it in gear anyway - just needed something for when it's parked but still running (winching, running the OBA)

I would but my my bolt pattern is 5x5.5 not 5x4.5.
I would like to stay with stock parts from the part store.
