AMC 20 was the only option from the factory

That is completely correct to the best of my knowlede. One of my Jeeps is a 78 CJ-5 with the 258 Inline 6. It has a Dana 20 rearend althought mine has been upgraded to one piece shafts.

look on the housing, it should be stamped 30 40 whatever
