  • 4.7L stroker vs. 4 liter

I am windering how a torquey 4.7L making peak hp around 4500 rpm with 4.56 gears would compare to a 4 liter with the same hp at 6000 rpm or around with 4.88 gears reving out frequiently? I would think the same and if that were the case then I would get 4.88s instead of 4.56s because with a 4:1 low I should have plenty of torque if it has all the low end it had from the factory.

    Here's some comparison numbers

Do you mean a TeraLow or an Atlas?

Your 4.x will chew up a TeraLow in no time. If the engine is OK don't mess with it and spend your $ on an Atlas.

My stock 4 liter is so smooth at 4-5000 rpm like glass and I think with the stroker it would not be smooth anymore. The Golden 4.6L made only thirty more horsepower than the 4L. Gears will make up for torque when your smaller engine makes the hp. I know my gas mileage will go down if I spend more time at high rpms and jeeps are equiptment that do not inheriently get good gas mileage which is fine but I am questioning if I would get worst in my 4 liter reving it out like a sports car on the road than a nasty stroker motor that also makes torque at higher rpms. My stock 4 liter makes nice torque in 4 low so why not gear it lower for the street?

Jeep gas mileage is only bad when you actually measure it - so don't measure it

Sounds like you are happy with your 4.0

Spend your $ on an Atlas: you could stay with 4.56 and get a 5:1. Then you get the best of both worlds - sweet!
