  • Atlas 4 Speed Transfer Case

Anyone have any experience with the new Atlas 4 speed transfer case? I seem to be in need of a new transfer case after last weekend, or doing some pretty extensive repairs to my existing Dana 300. I was hoping that maybe womeone was running this new case, or has driven one, and could let me know what they think.

    Atlas T Case

I'm running the Origonal Atlas ll with a NV 4500 and 4:56 gears. My T/C is 4:33 and I'm at 110:1. I am totally satisfied. How slow do you want to go?
I guess the question is how much do you want to spend?

I had always thought that I would just put in the 4.3 to 1 Atlas II. Now with the advent of the 4 speed, I like the idea of having gearing options in between 4H and 4L. I am not certain how much I would really use the 10.4 to 1 range, but the 4 speed t-case is $500 more than an Atlas II. Now $500 is a fair amount of coin, but the added versatility would be nice. I have called some Jeep shops that think the new case is great (certainly a great sale), but I want some reliable info from the MJR members who may have used one. Your experience with the Atlas II is pretty much the same I hear from most people. My set-up would be similar, except I am running 4.88 gears.

I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered the 4 speed Atlas you have in your rig. How do you like yours? The low range should keep me off the clutch. Probably take me a little time to get use to driving with all those gear options, but should be fun.

Better yet, once I am running again I will join the MJR folks on the trail and we can all play around and see what it can do. Due to the price, it looks like it will be sometime before I put a 4-link coil-over suspension inf the CJ or buy the beadlocks or tube fenders. Darn wish list is too long.

6 weeks is what Advanced is saying about delivery time. I will keep my fingers crossed. If you happen to know of any in stock in some place, let me know.

Mine took 4 months. And prob would have dragged out longer. Some people gave up after 6 months of waiting and went with the 5:1. Pehaps Atlas has gotten better on the delivery.

What is this being put into? I run hi pinion 60 in the rear and it was a very . very tight fit. Back drive shaft is a shorty and ax travel is limited.

I also put in the electrical shifter, the two standard shifters are still in use.

It sure was worth the wait

the 4 speed atlas is the first aftermarket transfer case that really, really makes sense to me.
I am really interested in the higher geared case however, Has anyone here installed that one?

I dont think theres a size difference, Atlas drawings only show one size.

I am putting this into an 86 CJ7. I am running a D44 in the rear with the T5 transmission. Currently I run a SOA set-up, but am hoping to convert to a coil-over 4 link at some point. I realize that I will need to shorten the rear drive shaft & lenghten the front. I guess I will get to figure all this out when the T-Case arrives. I sure hope the delivery time has improved. I guess I would go with the Atlas II and Klune V if I can't get the 4 speed.

Britain is right, they are the same size. If you like the higher geared Atlas, and you are running a good TCase now, you could probably just add a Klune V underdrive to get the same result. If you currently have a 1 to 1 high range and 2.5 to 1 low range, a Klune V would add 2 more ranges at 2.7 to 1 and 6.25 to 1. I am not certain that this is feasable with your current rig, but it might be and would be less expensive than a 4spd Atlas. In my situation, I do not have a working T-case.

Atlas is cool. Lots of people dont use the advatage of having the ability to lock in only the front and leave the back open.

Some bad off camber stuff where you need to drag your front into position some TC wont allow that. It has kept me on my feet and not my head....
