grinding/clunking sound in left front axel

Hey guys I have a grinding/clunking in the left front of my 88 wrangler all stock. so I jacked it up and the left front will turn but it is very difficult to do this seems like theres some wabble in the axel anyone have any ideas what this might be..........Thanks rayjdawg
