  • HELP...I can't breath!!

I recently rebuild my 1991 4.0 after it threw a rod throught the pan. I put a bit of $$ into the engine to get a little more power after the rebuild, lifted it, new rims and tires ect... I tore out the cats and just went straight pipe with a high flow muffler.

I put 500 miles on it around town then decided to use a little more of the power and noticed the engine seems to be starving for air. I was planning on waiting a bit to get a really good intake system because I wanted to find the right one, but it seems my engine is unable to perform witht he stock intake, it can exhale but can hardly inhail if you know what I mean.

2 things I want out of the intake if possible, i want TONS of airflow, preferable a cold air intake set up, but I also want to be able to adda snorkel so all I need to do is disconnect and connect to the snorkel for some fun

any suggestons on manufacturers? I want the right kit, and I need to NOW

    thanks
    Tom

Do your exhaust right, Borla header, high flow cat, and a good muffler. The intake thing, ARB snorkel and leave it set up that way. I know people who say once they put the ARB snorkel on they got better performance than stock.

Have you tried just usimg a K&N filter in the stock box? Its supposed to give you more air flow. or use a Rusty's Air Tube or something along those lines but then your going to have to put the stock air box back in for the snorkle.

i agree with nailer341 put the cat back on or at least get a high flow cat. i had the same problem before i blew up my engine i had just straight pipes no cat or mufflers and it ran like sh!t. something like not enough back pressure i think. you will lose just a little on the sound of the engine but it will run better with a cat i belive. just my opnion but could be wrong.

^.^ You could see if you can't fab something up. Like, build an air box that has the filter enclosed in it with an otpening ot the outside, that way you're pulling cool air straight from the snorkel hook-up to the air filter. Then just buy a snorkel, and fab up a way to connect. Easier said than done I know...but it's an idea O.o
