Cherokee 2.8 V-6 Swap

I met this Jeep chick('89 Islander,'89 Lerado & a '93 YJ 4cyl) and her son has a 1986 Cherokee with a 2.8 V-6 in it that rattles something awful.I am not familar with this GM 6 at all.Will a 3.8 bolt up to the auto tranny in it?What is the tranny used in these rigs?This kid is getting so frustrated with it that he wants to buy a Corsica...AAUUUGGGHHHH!!!We don't want that do we!

OK, first things first. She's got three Jeeps? Sounds like she might be the special one for you. Second, A CORSICA??? Wow! I've heard nothing but bad things about the 2.8. I believe it was a GM motor, the same as in the S-10 and you won't hear any S-10 owners praising their 2.8's. Is it just that the engine makes noises? Or is it that the whole Cherokee rattles? I have no idea if the 3.8 bolts up and honestly I bet not many people would know. I'm not sure if that is actually a stellar engine either.
