  • 4.3 vs 5.7

    I've been thinking of swapping to a 4.3 vortec fuel injected from a carb. 5.7 chevy 350. With the price of gas and all. what the power out put of the 4.3. average number? anyone know

      I know the 4.0 strait six jeep engine is 190 HP stock.

        The newer 4.3 TBIs put out about 195HP at 4400 RPM and 250ft-lb at around 2800 RPM. It won't be a 350 but it's still a heck of an engine compared to its size/weight.

        Gas milage wise ... hmmmmm ... I think you'll be disappointed but it really depends on what you get with the 350. My 2001 blazer with the 4.3 gets between 14-15 in the city and 16-17 on the highway. I might get 18 if I do 55mph for a long stretch. That's with 3.73 gears, 4L60E tranny, and 31s.

          I believe its the Vortec motor you are asking about. The older TBIs put out like 165 or so, i get about 12 mph if i have a tail wind.
          The Second Amendment protects all the rest!
