Dana 300 Shift Rod Replacement

Can the shift rods in a Dana 300 be replaced with the transfer case in the Jeep?The kid that used to own the CJ7 broke the rear u-joint on the front driveshaft and the driveshaft broke the ends off the shift rods.Everything looks O.K. except that plate the shifter pivots in is missing and of course I don't have one of those.I do have a spare Dana 300 I can pull the shafts from.I haven't opened up a transfercase in over 20 years(brothers '62 CJ5Spicer 18).

Thanks,Great write up.I think I'll swap the entire transfer case for now.Contemplating swapping the T176 for a T5 set-up I have so he'll have the overdrive for his trips back and forth to college.
