  • TJ Auto Trans... same for 4 cyl and 6 cyl?

My 98 TJ needs the Auto Trans rebuilt, I have the 4 cyl.

Is the trans the same for a 4 cyl or a 6 cyl TJ ?

TJ vs. YJ - 4 cyl Auto Trans different ??

and a 4 cyl Auto Trans from a YJ won't fit a TJ, either?

If memory serves me right, the trans for the 4 cyl has a 21 spline input shaft and the 6 cyl has a 23 spline input shaft.

Do all the jeep 2.5 have the same bell housing pattern? Are they GM pattern? I know the output is different between the 6 and the 4.

          Thanks

No you can't use a 4-cyl trans on a 6-cyl engine or viceversa. They will not bolt up.

            Completly different bolt patterns.

I know the 4 cyl and 6 cly bolt pattern is differnt. Is the 4 cyl bell housing pattern the same a chevy?

Is it s GM engine? Are all years of the 4 cyl the same bell pattern?

A few cj-7's came with a 151 cu inch (2.5L) Chevy 4 cyl which does have a standard Chevy bell housing pattern.

The 87 and up Wranglers have a 150 cu in AMC 4 cyl engine. I have been told that this engine has the same bolt pattern as a 2.8 Chevy v6.

I've never looked to be sure of this since the 2.8 is a bigger dog that a 2.5 jeep engine.
