The 258 in my sons YJ had an awful "death rattle" going on,about zilch for oil presure and leaked oil like the Exxon Valdese. We yanked his engine and started collecting the parts to rebuild it.He was loosing interest fast with it torn down so I started looking for a running engine we could drop in so he could still drive his Islander.I found this engine on E-Bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33615 and bid 258.00 naturally.Got it for $256.00.He himmed and hawed about putting it in but when he realized his Firebird wasn't going to be much use when the snow comes he finally got to work on it.He painted it up the other day and we put it in tonight. We still have to bolt on all the accessories but should have it in a couple of days.If I can figure out how to ad pictures to the post I'll put some on.

Very Cool! I got my engine from E-Bay as well. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Well, here we are 2 weeks later and I finally got a chance to hook every thing up(work has been hectic lately).I put Jr. in and had him hit the key, when we got fuel to the carb it fired and died.Tried it again and it fired and died. Then it acted like it wasn't firing.I checked a plug and nothing.Removed the coil, scraped the paint, wire wheeled the coil bracket and still nothing.I removed the distributor that came with the engine and installed the one from the old 258 and she breathed to life!Sounds good!Jr. test drove it and was pleased. We'll see how it goes tommorrow for him."Good Girls and Dirty Jeeps" a song by Opal Justice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xRtRE45OVQ

Well he has a couple of vacuum leaks on the carb and the choke is froze open so I am going to get a rebuild kit and new choke for it.Otherwise it's running great."Good Girls and Dirty Jeeps" a song by Opal Justice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xRtRE45OVQ
