  • Flat Towing with an Atlas

Does anyone here have personal experience with flat towing a TJ that has a 4 speed Atlas ?

The info I have read on Advance Adapters site states it is not recommended but stops short of saying do not do it.
Maybe them just covering their asses in the event of a failure, not sure.

Anyway, have you flat towed yours ? (drive shafts attached of course)

When I called AA regarding my 2-speed Atlas T-case, they said it "could be" flat towed for about 300 miles. Then to disconnect it from the Moho and drive it for a few miles, then reconnect. It seemed to me that it wasn't going to be good for it. So I just disconnected the DS from the rear axle and strapped it up out of the way, and left the front hubs unlocked (custom built D44), and drug it to Montana and back.

A friend of mine disconnects his DS when flat towing his 4 speed.

I don't disconnect when I flat tow with my Atlas II but since I don't wheel anymore I don't have an opinion. Seriously, when I do flat tow it is usually under 100 miles. Any trips longer and I would disconnect the drive shafts.
