My 97 Tj's 4.0 is on its last leg. Still a good engine I guess but it just doesn't get up and go like I remember it did 17 yrs ago. So with that said, next month I'll be ordering up my Golen 4.6 stroker, putting a 99+ intake, aftermarket header, bigger injectors, new ignition (oem), better oil pan, and possibly an auto in. Flip flopped the idea of doing a 5.9 but theres just to much to deal with and learn. Not to mention it'll still be a used and possibly problematic engine. Don't need to replace a rotten apple with a rotten orange.
