Setting up the new(er) high pinion Dana 30 with 4.10's. My 3.07 pinion had a zero depth and so does the 4.10. I used the same shims to see how it would come out. I swapped the shims from the old carrier to the same positions on the new carrier. The pattern I see right now has the drive side on the heel and the coast side on the toe. They are slightly overlapped if you look directly at the top of the tooth.
Is there a difference in reading the pattern when dealing with reverse rotation gearsets? According to Dana, Drive on the heel and coast on the toe is correct backlash and a thicker pinion shim needed. How would this be with the same shims and both pinions zero?
