  • YJ: Trans Pan bolt torque specs

I ordered a new transmission Pan for my YJ. It's a TF-999. I couldn't find torque specs anywhere for the bolts. I called Morris 4x4 where I bought it and they advised hand tight. What exactly is hand tight???

          Haynes says 12 lb-ft.

Hand tight is having the bolt head seated (with clean threads) as tight as you can get it without tools and then a tweak with a wrench right up to the point that you feel the bolt want to stop - without putting any muscle behind the wrench. Make sure you are bringing each bolt up evenly and on opposite sides of the pan. Just going crazy on each one at a time is a great way to make leaks.

use a 1/4" drive ratchet, and go easy
multiple passes, tightening a little more each time
