No problem. What coil is it? I looked up different accel coils instruction and the first thing it talks about is having a ballast resistor. Hopefully your points are not fried also. I have pesonally used the pertronix setups and they work good and are more reliable than any points setup. Not to mention they a fairly cheap compared to buying another whole used electronic ignition setup.

I have a ballast resistor from mallary an its way it is a .75-1.50 variable unit. I am going to change the points when I put the resistor just tobe safe.

I thought it was for checking suspension flex. Infact I wanted to come down and try it out someday lol.

            My two cents...

Aint worth the pennies, but two comments: 1. Neil, I've wheeled with Art once before and don't wanna speak for him, but I'm most sure it was an offer! In the short time belonging to MJR, I've come to realize he's one of the most stand up guys in the group and is willing to help everyone; much like you! 2. You said the cool air blowing across the coil helps, but as you gain altitude - isn't the air cooler; and hence, would help cool the coil too?? Just asking...I'm stoopid when it comes to this part of the rig!

The thing about cooler air in higher elevation is that the air is moving alot slower because I am in low range.

Here is a question for ya, you did not put a rubber vacuum cap on the bowl vents of the carb did ya? This causes power loss and very weird running problems

And you know this how LOL. I have never heard of anyone ever doing that. I would think it would cause a lean condition because no atmospreic pressure helping push fuel through the jets but when the floats open the seat the fuel pressure might pressurise the fuel bowl squirting fuel through the jets. Who knows! thats so weird. LOL

Ha Beau when people see open tubes after they remove all the smog stuff they tend to plug them. The way I figured this out was on a correctly setup Brown truck, that did not vent the floatbowl because the vapor cannister was saturated and did not purge.
It did not purge because of a lot of the rebuilt carbs we got for those 292's were missing one ported vacuum port inside the cab itself. It would cause backfiring and lack of power.

Those brown trucks still running carbs? Or was this a while ago?

The vents on the Truck Avenger carbs are one piece that bridge from one bowl to the other so there is no way to plug them even if I wanted.

That was about 5 years ago when the last ones went to the shredder Beau.

I have been working alot of ot lately have not had time to put them on. Today is the day that the resistor is going on, but it is going to rain this weekend and I dont have a top on my jeep so I dont know if I am going to test it. Might have to put on the rain gear. I will post as soon as I can test.
