  • engine oil soaked airfilter problem

I've been noticing that my filter has been getting soaked with oil. The oil is going thru the PCV tube from the valve cover to the airbox. Does anybody else have this problem or know what might cause this?

      Mike,

I used to have that problem till my mechanic threw this air/oil separator in line between my PVC and the air filter. Stopped it completely. Just unscrew the bowl every 3rd trip and pour any oil back in the filler hole.

And Roger is right, it is a common Jeep thing.

It makes me feel better I'm not the only one. But I like that air/oil seperator.

I've learned A LOT from the YJ FAQ's there.

                  Ray,

Yes Ken did that little trick for me. He has another fix also. We replaced the YJ Valve cover with a TJ cover that has a full windage plate to prevent oil splash into the vents. No leaks now.

Make SURE you have the CORRECT PCV installed.
What weight oil are you using?
How many miles on the engine?

10W-20 is way to light in southern Ca.
I've been using Castrol 20W-50 for 25 yrs. Have 120K+ on the OEM engine and have never been inside it yet except to reseal to POS, OEM plastic valve cover.
Go to NAPA, they will have, or get, the correct PVC for you.
Lucas now has out an "Engine oil stop leak" and I'm here to tell you it flat out WORKS! Stopped a 20yo rear main leak in about 500 miles.
This should slow down the oil in the AF....Will NOT stop it.
                        Cheers,

                            Remember.......
New TIGHT engine..thin oil is ok. For a time.....
                            Worn/loose engine..go to thicker.
As far as "Stock-oil" used, I have no clue and it doesn't mean a thing with an eng w/120K miles on it anyhow.
10W-20 engine oil in your AO and with your eng. and the engine mileage doesn't make sense.
                            Cheers,
