Don't you have a HP30 in your XJ and what size tire are you going to run?

yeah i have a hp d 30 in it but i thought a more heavy duty axle would be better. probably 35s when im done. am i wrong? i heard that they make a d 44 front that u can slap in so i was gonna do it just because.

I don't think a bolt in 44 is any stronger than a HP30 (same ball joints & axle tubes)

i ran my jeep for years on 35s, on a hi pinion 30 with chromally shafts and never had a problem,, put your money in gears, and shafts, you should be good, IMO

Also I would have the axle tubes welded up on the 8.8 before putting it in.

Technically yes. They offered a HP D44 in south american XJ's, however they are pretty much non existent now. A Rubicon 44 will bolt in, but that's not worth the swap.

The HP D30 that's in there now is a pretty desirable piece. A fair number of us Wranger guys swap out our low pinion D30's for the HP version.
