  • xj engine idle problem

A friend of mine called me today and asked me to post his problem with his XJ on here. He has an 88 Xj and whenever he starts it, the idle varies from normal idle to almost the point that the engine dies. It happens even after it has been driven all day, but as soon as he turns it off and restarts it, the problem happens. After about 5 mins of running, the problem goes away and it runs smooth. He has replaced every sensor on the car relating to the engine and exhaust and there isn't a check engine light coming on. Any ideas on what this might be?

idle control valve , usually just a can of throttle body cleaner will do. maybe you can have them try that.
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

That is a posibility. I will suggest it. He is at his witts end with it right now.
      Thanks for the suggestion
