I am running a Dana 30 on my 79 CJ7 and I want to replace it with something much stronger. I was thinking of going with a Dana 60 (4:11 gears, detroit locker, pass side diff, preferably high pinion and high steer)..Anyone have any other suggestions or any contacts where I can find the best deal?

Im running a 9 inch on the rear with a 31 spline,
and a detroit locker...was out at Calico on sat and heard a snap....the left rear wheel stopped turning...I took it to "Sutton Engineering" in la Habra...they have done work for me in the past. Im not sure if it was the axle or the locker....They will know 2morrow..Im looking at putting a 35 spline in it with 4:56 gears and a Detoit locker....looking at $1700 out the door.."It puts the Jeep on the rock"

You check the hub? Also You may just hold off on dropping 1,700 on that 30 or 9 ... You are almost at a set of nice mild built (used) axles for that.. What size tire are you looking to stay at?Head nut at Outdoorlogic

I just found out it was the axle that snapped and that it is only a 28 spline shaft. It looks as though that is my weak point in the rear end. Im running 35's now, however, I will eventually work up to 37's.
I'm gonna roll with the 35 spline in the rear, change out the gear ratios to 4:56 and toss a 44 up front. That Dana 60 is killing me with the estimates I'm getting. I keep telling them I do not want it gold plated, however, they keep giving me the gold plated price. I've got a line on a hup to hup 40 for a good price."It puts the Jeep on the rock"

56" wide-track CJ D44 build.
I built my D44 by getting a Chevy 3/4 ton 1976 axle, stripping it down and having Currie or Hoopers shorten the tubes and put caster in the knuckles. I obtained the axle complete for only $100, and the shortening was only a couple hundred bucks more. Very reasonable and much less than the big boys get for anything."
