Looking at all your posts I can tell you although this is a great site with great people you need to be looking at Pirate for what you are doing i.e. 3 link, 4 link, and 14 bolt. You'll get all the answers you need with the search button.

Here is the 14 bolt bible. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...ble/index.html

Once your rig is done come show it off. :thumbs_up

Better yet post your progress for others to see.

      Good luck

i dont mean to be annoying with all the posts or (stupid ?s) this whole jeep thing is still new to me and i dont relly know about any other 4 wheel sites or forums. a friend told me about mjr and thats the only reason i made it this far. most of the questions i ask are for personal knowledge not something im going to try to slap on my rig. im just trying to get a feel for the current swaps and suspension and all the stuff thats good. it helps me to figure out a direction to go and how to find the information im looking for. even the constructive sarcasm is a help sometimes. i dont have a whole lot of computer skills and kind of get lost when browsing for things but when you guys point me in a direction or post a link for me to look at it kinda helps me learn more about jeepin and web browsing. i could have alredy blown alot of money on things that probably wouldnt have been a good idea such as builing my d35 axle instead of going with my 8.8 swap. without you guys i wouldnt know about half of these things. a week ago i didnt even know what wheel hop or axle wrap was. all these little details really help a newbie out even if you guys dont think so. im not being lazy im trying to learn anyway i can. but for all of u guys who have replied to my posts i appreciate it.

I'm in the beginning stages of 4 linking my rear and 3 linking my front. The best advice I can give you is use the search function on the forums you visit and read, read, and read some more. My brain is almost fried from all the reading I have been doing. I have saved almost everything I have searched and now have a small library in the garage. There are several places to acquire this information. Most of my research has been done on http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/ and I have learned a lot just by searching. Check out their technical section and most of your questions will be answered.

Lastly, be patient, go at it slow, and do it right the first time.

www.naxja.org is a good site for XJ specific tech

and if you are into camping and the like check out www.expeditionportal.com
An XJ will always cost you less then any girl ever will, and you will always know when the spark is gone.

Bails, I am wondering, a gm 14 is a huge axle, and takes a lot of tire to get the benefit out of it. Are you wanting to build a bulletproof axle for rock crawling? Because there is no such thing, or have you read all the mags and are impressed with what they say. I think from what you have said about being new to Jeeps, you need to sit back and decide what you need over what you want. You will spend a lot less moany that way. I do not think there are many here who would not agree you need to upgrade that D35, but how hard are you going to use that rig? Remember a lot of guys running d30 and d44 combos go the same places guys running the big stuff do.
Research it a bit, wheel that rig a bit, and then run off and do the mods, and remember look at what guys are running, a lot of those big rigs are all show. If you need the big stuff, go for it, but if you do not, it cost a lot to mod and maintain that stuff also.

in response to blackzzr i appreciate the info. i actually am going with an 8.8. i already have it. i saw a few guys convert to a 14 bolt and was wondering what was so special about it. most of my wheeling will be up in the hills by my house and in the desert with some ocassional rock crawling. i understand the overkill concern completely. it was more for personal reference that i was asking about the 14 bolt. i think the 8.8 will be a better axle for me. and as far as comparing to the show big rigs i actually am going to use mine which is why im asking all the question to what holds up on the trails. i dont know exactly how hard im going to use it but i want it to hold up when i do. but tanks for the help.

ditto. and try to talk to people who have done this before and look at other people's stuff.

pirate is great but search first. otherwise they will cut you in half

I guess some people do break Rockwells, I could take some pics of axles that i do believe would be unbreakable if you like. Of course if someone were to run them the unsprung weight would be at least double that of the jeep!

It usually cost a lot just to own a Jeep. As for the axle upgrade I have to disagree. I got my 14 bolt for $300. How much is it to upgrade a 35? From what I have heard its still is a weak link.

Is the 14 bolt overkill.....maybe but they are easy to find and cost a lot less then some of the other options.

and how much did it cost to weld on spring perches and shock towers, can find d 44s with that already on for cheap also, just have to look around

well, ok there are a few, but man as you said the weight of a rockwell
talked to a friend of mine who is a new wheeler, just took his fj40 to the hammers and tried to run at 9:30 at night alone and busted an axle. real smart I thought, now he is looking for d 60s for his Toyota as his friend told him he needs them. Well I guess trying the hammers at night alone, he does. However doesn't Art do those with a 4 banger and a d30/d44 combo on 32s and is just fine, oh he is on 33s now.
