just put 33's on my yj 4.2 engine what gears should i run?
But can we SURVIVE 2 more years?

That all depends on how you are going to drive it. If you don't mind diving 70Mph on the highway I like the 4.10 gears. There is no standard. Its all about your intentions for the Jeep.

I just went with a set of 4.88's, I have a 2.5L, 5 Speed, running 33 x 12.5's. I have 4.11's in it now and I have absolutly no top end. I'm lucky to get it up to 70mph on the freeway, down hill with a tail wind! If I've got even the slightest head wind, then forget it! I'm only doin 55 @ about 3500 to 4000 rpm! As for 5th gear..... Not even happenin! Normal for me is 4th gear, foot on the floor! I'm really hopeing that the 4.88's will do the trick and get me back up to speed and that I dont lose the low end tourqe that I enjoy right now out on the trail.

I run 4.10's in my 88' YJ with 4.2 and 3 speed auto. Seems like plenty of power for me. If I did more crawling and less roads and trails I might think about something lower.

There are more factors to consider then just tires and engine. What type of wheeling are you going to do, Is the Jeep your daily driver, What trans are you running?

Right now I'm running 33" tires with 4.56 gears. It works well but is a little tall for my taste. I actually have to shift in to 3rd from drive on the streets. Works great on the highway. I'm planning on going to 4.88 soon.

I would say don't get anything less the 4.56.

Rich, Thanks for everything. The renovation is over this week and I can't wait till you guys are gone (no offense). I think you know what I mean.

If your staying on those 33's I think you'll be happy with 4.56's.
