I pulled the lid on my ford 8.8 today and inside I found 3 dime sized hunks of metal. Everything looked good to my untrained eye. Any ideas where these came from?

ARB's plus the OBA required is $$$. I would like to find a locker for <$500. These bits worry me so I'm thinking sooner rather than later.
Realize that if you don't install the locker yourself (not a beginner or intermediate project for your axle!) then labor is probably going to be $350-$700.
You could try to find a deal on a Detroit Locker, or do an Aussie Locker (the only "lunchbox" locker I'd waste my time or money on), or if you want a geared LSD, there are several on eBay right now. I'm sure to catch some flak for this, but a geared LSD in the back and an Aussie Locker in the front could be a great way to go... in some cases it could prove better than locked f/r.
Nice thank you for the help. I think I am going to want to pull that thing out anyway. I am calling around for prices on different loackers. Any opinions on the detroit Trutrac?

AVOID IT.
you can do the aussie or lockright locker installation in your garage with no special tools.
HOWEVER, having gone that route, i highly recommend you save your pennies and get a selectable locker. i recommend the ARB. you will be doing it in the not too distant future anyway, so you may as well just get it done right the first time.
if you like to drive in the snow through big bear and the like, you will really like the option of locked or open.
if you dont have the money today, if it were me, i'd repair the clutches and save up for the ARB.
good luck in your decision.

I think this is best also.I have the TruTrac's in my CJ5 and they work great for loose stuff.Don't think they will work as well on rock as lockers from what I've been reading.

Its as much fun getting dirty as it is being dirty in a Jeep!
I ordered an Aussie Locker today. They are just to cheep to pass up for my situation. ARBs someday, but I don’t feel bad about paying $250 for and Aussie now even if I can’t sell it when I am done with it. I am afraid of one of those clutch pieces seizing up my rear-end and causing and awful wreck. I won’t get my part till Thursday. But hopefully I’ll have it in and ready to Rock by Saturday for the Meet and Greet. Materdaddy is going to give me a hand. Sounds like a simple install, knock on wood. Thanks for the advice.

Like I said, with your axle, it won't be a simple install. If you had an open diff, it would be simple, assuming that your bearings, and r&p were in good condition. You will have to replace the limited slip carrier with an open carrier, which means you will also have to replace the bearings, etc. The bearings and their races have to be installed just so, or no go... or maybe go boom. That $350 I mentioned was the the lowest quote I got for swapping out my trash lok LSD with an Aussie, based on me supplying all parts, oil, etc. An ARB would proly cost twice as much to install, so an Aussie is still a lot cheaper. Nailer341's suggestion about buying the clutch pack may be a pretty good idea until you can get all the parts and labor lined up to install the Aussie.
Damn. I already ordered my Aussie. Ill be looking for a carrier I guess. I don't want that track lock crap. Anyone have a suggestion on a shop that can do this for me. Ill call ORW tomorrow and talk to them but they are money. I guess this is what I get for not doing my homework. Thanks for the help.
