THere are several articles out there that show how to improve the Dana 30. Some cost more than others, but here are a few links:

Also, there is an article in the March '09 issue of Four Wheeler titled "Making Stock Survive; Part 1" that shows Reid Racing's new Dana 44 knuckle conversion for the Dana 30 axle. ----I can't seem to find the link on the Four Wheeler website, though....
I am interested in seeing if that upgrade is really worth the time and money as I won't be running anything bigger than 35's for the next two years....

I run my D30 stock with a Detroit running 4.88 gears and 33x12.5s. have never had a problem with it.
Biggest advice I can give is learn not to use to much skinny pedal. I see beefed up axles pop all the time because guys want to shove on that skinny pedal, or will not just pull out a winch line.
Big tires and spike loads destroy axles, but the biggest part is those tires, the daily loads put on the shafts stress the things and make the spike load less. Then when you need it, blamo, it is not there.
