  • Installed New (to me) 904 trans

    Well started my install project,

Converting from Manual T5 to and Auto 904.
When I did this I want to gain some ground clearance with the transfer case.

I rotated my transfer case almost flat. If I go 1 more hole, I'll have to modify my floor pan. I already have a 1 inch body lift and dont want to go any higher. Right now the transfer case is even with the tranny pan, TCI extra capacity pan.

I thought I could get at least 6" of ground clearance.
I'm going to build a new skid plate.

But was looking for Ideas for a tranny cross member?

Looks like you have a body lift in there. Do you have lifted motor mounts? That will gain you some clearance.

I dislike how my dana 300 hangs down. I was changing my tranny mount yesterday, and had to knock the skid away from transfer case. Someday, I'll clock my 300!

I seen a couple of differant ways for clocking,
        1) advance adapter uses a clocking ring and a extended output shaft.

        2) I used the 5/16 clocking ring and a extended seal ring inside.

3 Some place a guy rotated his transfer case and redrill new holes in his adapter to transmission. He was only able to use 5 of the 6 bolts. But after I took my manual T5 out thats all it had holding it together.

I have the link on myt laptop not with me right now.

I have mine clocked flat too. I used a Novak adapter kit. I needed the spacer anyway to hook the AX15 to the Dana 300.

I have a crossmember but no skid yet.

I made my crossmember out of 1.5 x 1.5" x 0.188" square tubing. It has a 1/4" plate welded to the side of it that bolts directly to the trans. The ends of the tubing are welded to some 2" dia tubing that has TJ LCA bushings pressed in it. Tabs on the inside of the frame are bolted through the LCA bushing. I can take/find more pics if you're interested. This was done on TJ's by some guys over at JeepBBS, so I can't claim design credit
