  • Bad Vibrations?

The other day I noticed a vibration in my jeep when it got to around 60mph. So I spent some time underneath my rig checking everything out. Lugnuts, steering linkage, suspension, driveshaft, etc. The only thing I noticed was that there was some play in the rear driveshaft. So I'm thinking that maybe my u-joints are going bad? Any suggestions?

Maybe its time for that SYE and cv driveshaft!

chances are if youre having bad vibs and your u-joints are in rough shape, then check your seatbelts....hahaha. sorry i couldnt help myself. but or a serious note it probably is your u joint. and if not then its only $15.

I'm probably the only one that didn't know this and I'm not sure if it applies to your situation/Jeep, but I just went to a double cardan cv style drive shaft in my Rubi and it requires a totally different pinion angle resulting in the necessary purchase of adjustable upper control arms. I came to find out that on the stock set up the angle of the trans and pinion are equal, whereas on the cv style, the pinion and the shaft angles are equal. I've got the control arms sitting on my coffee table ready to be installed in the morning . . . my Jeep's been waiting patiently in the garage all week! Hope this helps

WHEEL BALANCE!!! At least that's my guess. I wouldn't let that stop me from buying goodies though.

YJ's don't have control arms, you can adjust the pinion angle by simply loosening the leaf spring U-bolts and tilting the axle upwards, and then re-tightening. much easier and cheaper than on our TJ's.

still need the SYE kit and driveshaft, though
          03 TJ. It'll go 65mph...can't complain.

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought about tire balance, so I'll have that checked out here soon. If that's not the case, I guess I'll have no choice but to upgrade.

I had the same problem on my 2000 TJ and it turned out the rear u-joint was bad. Easy and cheap fix, haven't had a problem since.

Well, it turned out to be the transfer case. Something is loose and making noise in there. So far, it looks like it'll be an easy fix. If I don't have to spend alot on it then I can consider an upgrade.

There are a few thing I'd like to my done jeep before late summer or early fall. I'm gonna make a run up to northern California, up around Lake Tahoe and Grass Valley. We got family up there and there's a lot of trails I've got in mind. Fordyce and Rubicon will be close and tempting, but way out of my rig's capabilities rigt now. Anyway, got to make sure everythings fixed and running good before then.

Ok, I needed a new transfer case. So I got a great deal on a new one with a lower crawl ratio. Can't wait to try it out!
