  • CJ 5 Automatic

Hi folks. Got a question. Have a 75 CJ5 that I'm building into a swamp buggy(I live in Florida and hunt the Everglades). The CJ5 works fine but I really want to run an auto tranny. Got a regular run of the mill 258 and Dana 20 T case. Length is obviously a concern.

Anyone have suggestions? Thanks in adance.

shortest you will find is the 904/999, the tf999 has a better 1st gear as i under stand it.

I put a tf999 in my cj7 last summer. I think that it would fit in cj5. I can tell you this it was a beast to find one. Maybe it will be easier where you live but, it was tough here. After I had it completely rebuilt and then rebuilt again(due to some loose junk in a brand new tranny cooler)it has been great. MY tranny guy set it up so it will stay in whatever gear you shift it to. This makes it great on downhills, for a auto.
