  • CJ Power steering box

My steering box has been leaking for awhile now. With my new Hydro assist brakes, I think it time to repair or replace.

Question is to rebuild or Replace the steering box?

Where is it leaking from? If it leaks from the shaft that the pitman attaches to, it is a simple seal. I did mine about a year ago. Be sure you put tape over the splines before you install the seal, so you don't knick the new seal.

If it that seal, there is an issue with the correct one to use...I'll look it up.

While it's out, upgrade that mount! I bought the Big Daddy Offroad mount, and it is TOUGH. I believe I bought it straight from Big Daddy for about $85.

I put a penny on there to show the thickness.

Here is a link to my post on CJOffroad.com

If you need the larger seal, it is from a 3/4 ton Chevy truck (K20).

If it more than this seal, I read it usually best just to replace (to answer your original question). BTW, this seal is very simple...remove the retaining clip, remove old seal, tape spines on shaft, insert new seal, replace clip.
