The Desert Jewel is stuck in Park. The button that you push to lower the little cable so it will move out of park does not push the cable low enough to move it. Has anyone had this issue or know of an easy way to fix it?

push your shifter down. you likely pulled it up.
smack it down with your palm and see if that does it.
i have heard of this issue, and that was the fix for that particular one.

Took her to the stealer-ship....inside the shifter shaft there is a plastic piece that pushes down the pin to allow the shifter to move. This plastic piece broke in half. Unfortunately you can't just replace that piece you have to order a whole new shifter assembly

That sucks! How much did that assembly end up costing?

$105 without installation. I'll save $200 by having my brother install it. The tech was nice enough to take me out and show me exactly what comes out and goes back in....kinda hinted it was something easy to do and not to pay them to do it.

That's not too bad. I've been having really good luck with dealership pricing lately. They've been smoking Autozone and Kragen for odds and ends. I wonder if this is some kind of trend.

Maybe the term "stealership" is getting to them...
