  • YJ Speaker Replacement

OK, so Wallyworld has some Pioneer AND Sony Xplod speakers on sale that fit dash of the YJ. The Sonys are even water resistant. I figure now is as good a time as any to replace those blown dash speakers.

What is the procedure to do this WITHOUT taking the dash plate off? Or even an easier way to do it that the manual recommends. I know of some guys that have done it by sneaking their skinny little snake-like fingers in there and twisting the bolts off the studs but I don't qualify. Can I pop some bolts off and pull on it a little to fit my hands in there or am I stuck pulling apart my gauge cluster and all that? I'd like to make it an hour project instead of a weekend project, ya know? Who's been there?

    Been there done that!
Skinny little hands or find someone with them.
I did see someone do it without bleeding but they had the windshield down and the dash out. Sorry. That's the only two ways I know how to get it done.

It drowns out the sound of the shreiking hamsters spinning the wheel under the hood.

Grrrrr! Come on Kurt, there's lots of YJ's here. Shad, take the dash out. Do it right and save your knuckles and the speakers will sound better when they are tightened down correctly.

Damn you and your... sense. Jeez, can't a guy get lazy and take the easy way out every once in a while

Alright, I've had it out before. I can do it again.

                  Shad,

The square guys need to stick together [_]llllll[_]. When we installed my "Rockhard" roll cage 2 weeks ago, my mechanic had to remove the dash to install the floor mounts for the cage. Ken said to me, "If you plan to upgrade your speakers, now is the time"! So I tossed in some 4" x 6" Infinity's to match the rear pair. Didn't look like I could get to them after the dash was re-installed. Hope that it turns out cool.
