Hi Lift jack mounting, why not inside?

Where do you mount yours, and why? Is the 48"er enough jack for a 4" lift with 33s? Do you strap up the susp. before lifting?

The 48" is fine. Most situations don't require strapping the suspension. Mount it where you can remove it easily. Remember when you need the jack you are probably frustrated already from being stuck or having a flat etc. Also sometimes a rig gets stuck in a position that wont allow the tailgate to be opened. You want EZ access.

mine is on the hood, not only does it scare more soccer moms driving on the highway mounted there(absolutely NOT kidding), but it also provides a better weight distribution while i have gear and tools in the back of the rig. i also tried it 2 different places on the rear during my "early days" of wheeling but wasn't satisfied with either location.

48" jack should be fine, however I have the 60" which is also why mine won't fit inside the vehicle.

When I used to use one, I hung it between the roll bars in the rear with pipe clamps.

Hey Dave,

As you know, mine is mounted on the hood and is very secure and always easy to get to. I'll plan on Sunday's run and can test out my new 4.10 gears.

i mount mine on the hood. easy access and looks great.

Mine is mounted vertical, sits on the floor behind drivers seat. Top and bottom are clamped to the roll bar. The top is has a padlock, so to keep people from helping themselves when my Jeep is topless.

I used this method for about three years-the jack never slipped or did anything unexpected. I changed mine only because I bought a welder and made a pair of simple brackets out of angle iron and two nuts & bolts. Now I like to think that it makes the roll cage stronger....

I too had mine mounted inside between the rear rollbars but when my daughter about knocked herself out one day buy being bounced into it! I moved it out to the rear swing out! I think she still has the knot on her head too! :bonk:

that's what i am afraid of. just in case of a rollover i don't want any flying objects. especially when i have the kids in the car.

There's a dude on another forum that has his mounted to the bottom of the hood in the engine compartment. I don't know how he made the bracket, but it looks nice and clean.
