I'm talking about the differnce between the auto and man trans. When you change gears you have to go by tire size and what you want to do. All the charts that help you choose you gears show what the approx rpms will be. With an auto tranny, the rpms are higher than on a manual becuase of the slippage from the torque converter. It has nothing to do with driving on dirt vs. pavement, it's the fact that re-gearing with an auto trans the acutal rpms will be higher than with a manual. The overdrive in that AW4 tranny that Shadly1 gave me the link for should let me gear up to 4.10 or 4.56 and still be able to do 60 mph without racking up the rpms.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I knew there had to be an auto with an OD. This three gear #@$# is definitely second rate to anything I've ever driven.

I'll be hitting the junk yards this weekend looking for that 4 speed.

I'm really lookin for tips on swaps and updgrades, particularly for the xmsn and axles. I've been lookin around and haven't been able to find good solid advice yet.
I swapped my Dana 35 for a Ford 9" built by Currie Enterprises. I had them include the high pinion and high clearance option and Detroit Locker. It will likely be the last part of the drive train to break!
