Forest Service officials are asking the public to review and comment on whether all roads and trails open to wheeled vehicle use are shown on their inventory maps. SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST ANNOUNCES
ROUTE INVENTORY REVIEW MAPS AVAILABLE ON WEB SITE
PORTERVILLE, CA Forest Service officials are asking the public to review and comment on whether all roads and trails open to wheeled vehicle use are shown on their inventory maps. These maps are specific to four areas of the national forest: the Piute Mountains, Lake Isabella area, Greenhorn Mountains, and Breckenridge Mountain.
Electronic copies of the maps can now be downloaded from the Sequoia National Forest website at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/. Click the link “Off-Highway Vehicle Route Designation Strategy� under the “NEWSTORIES� section of the Forest homepage. Scroll down to the link “MAPS� to locate each of the inventory maps. The map series are printable in an 8½’ x 11� sheet format. They are available in PDF format and may take some time to download. The download times for each file will vary according to connection speed and file size.
Inventory maps are also available for public review at the following Forest Service offices:
Cannell Meadow District Greenhorn District Supervisors Office
105 Whitney Road 4875 Ponderosa Drive 900 West Grand Avenue
Kernville, CA Lake Isabella, CA Porterville, CA
In addition, they are available for review at Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices in Bakersfield at 3801 Pegasus Drive and in Ridgecrest at 300 South Richmond Road.
Copies of each map may be purchased at a cost of $7.50 per map at any of the three Forest Service offices and the BLM office in Bakersfield. If you are interested in purchasing the maps by mail, please send a check or money order made out to “USDA-Forest Service� to the following address: Sequoia National Forest, Supervisors Office, Attention: Norm Carpenter, 900 West Grant Avenue, Porterville, CA 93257.
