In fact all it is, is a gearing. It helps the driver more than anything else. I mean, in 4HI it's alright, but when you hit that skinny petal, it's gonna move! In 4lo because the gearing is lower you've got a little more precision in your acceleration. You can give it a little gas without having the jeep get loose from you, in a matter of metaphorically speaking.

Too funny!! If you click further below to see the comments...this is what was said by a couple of them - soooo funny:
New Jeep : This is a new 2005 Jeep Cherokee. Not mid 90's. And second, he flipped not because the make of the car. But because he did not drive in 4L. For the newbies who don't own a 4x4, thats 4L, and its for going up steep inclines. It prevents the car from flipping over, and gives the car overall more traction.

actually....4L : is made to keep the car from fliping, bye giving the front tireds more of the pulling power...there for keeping the ass end from pushing the front end over the ass end.......he was just a dumb ass like the on guy except he tried to go up to fast...not the fact that he didnt let off the gas

You should post AFTER you get your license!!! : 4L has nothing to do with it. 4L Does NOT prevent a car from flipping over! I just love all the asshats here that truly don't know the first thing about autos!

He was probably in Low Lock or he wouldnt have made it that far : His mistake was not letting off the gas when the front wheels came off the ground.
