  • Question for blkTJ (Brian)

I'm helping my buddy build up his jeep. I'm trying to get a really good mix of street and trail as the end result and your jeep pops out in my head of having both in its 33" tire days.

I'm curious of what components you had and what your thoughts on this setup is?

Also, if I remember you had 16" rims and 285/75R16 MTRs correct?

It needs to perform well on longer road trips but have adequite trail capability for our surf trips around the west coast.

    Thanks!

It may take a while for him to get back to you, he just moved into a new place and I'm not sure if he has his computer set up yet. I could answer your questions, but then Brian wouldnt feel special.

Hahah, ok. Any input on this topic is much appreciated.

I've been looking at getting the OME HD, 1" BL and 285s as an option too.

Well, I'm the wrong Brian....but I do have the 285's that are in the old pic of the right Brian's jeep above.....With factory wheels, I clear them with 3.75" of lift (actual measurement.....not the advertized number). I am also running a very similar suspension to what he used to be running .....just with shorter springs.

But like Dukes said....we all want the right Brian to feel special.

What springs / shocks are you running? How is the street ride?

RE 3.5 with POS DT3000's. The ride is *decent*, but would improve greatly with a good set of shocks.

sorry I missed this until now.

o.k., so your asking me what to do for a trailable/streetable/hiwayable Jeep on 33s... hmmmm.

I went with a 4.5 RE SA kit, sye, discos, ome shocks, 285/75R16s, 4.5" bs, 4.56 gears(manual trans), ARB locker, currie steering.

worked pretty good all around. needed lower tc gearing for rocks. Goodtime's rubi may actually be set up better than mine was at that stage.

I didn't have at that point, but would also add... a power steering cooler and the warn hub conversion.

I think I'd try out the edlebrock gas shocks if I had it to do over.

A LA kit may ultimately be more streetable.

              those are my thoughts. :yay:

                Thanks Brian.

4.5 kit huh? I think I may set him up with the 3.5 as articulation is not the most important at this point in the jeeps life.

Why do you reccomend the edlebrocks? I thought the OME were the way to go for a nice ride?

the OMEs didn't last very long in my application. maybe some others have had better/longer sucess with them. the initial ride is good.

I don't know if I can actually recommend the edlebrock's, I've never run 'em. If I had it to do all over again I may give them a try.
