  • Damn Spammers!

Some spammer pulled my email address off my domain registration and now I am getting flooded with email bounce-backs.

So, I have to retire the email address and probably the domain I have been using for the past 3 or 4 years.

If you previously had my email address and want my new one, just send me a PM.

not to highjack this thread but the one and only reason I still have AOL, email spam filters, notice I surf on At&t, they have a fast dsl, but they have no spam filters, I have not opened my email on At&t since I signed up. However my AOL mail account gets very little spam.

i am having the same problem. i get more damn medacine, and viagra offers than you can shake a stick at. [no pun intended]
lets not forget those trying to sell google, and other web services.
the bastards change the email address after each mailing too. it makes it impossile to block them individually.

i set myself up with a spam account, used for registering domains and any other place where my email may be public. and then i have a personal address, an address for sites that i've signed up to, and a few others ... yeah it sucks but i just set em all up to check in my fav pop mail app, at least my personal emails get to me

With Earthlink you get a spamblocker and I have it set if you're not in my address book you go through the spamblocker first. I check that then if someone I know is in it, I check a box and then click on add to address box and move to inbox. It works, sorta.
However, I've been getting emails from this f*cker who says I owe him money and what's funny is that king4wd at earthlink.net is in my name and he puts in the subject line: Dude. This last time he sent an email saying he was going to report me to the police because I owed him money. I beat him to it and reported him to our local police. The bad thing is, he's always changing his email address and never signs the email. I'm waiting for him to screw up!!

I have like 25 active email accounts, literally. I forward them all to one address and then I run spamassassin on my server and it filters my email. I still read my spam folder once a day to see what's in there, but nothing of importance, usually.

I probably did not clarify my issue well enough.

Spam is not the problem. Some spammer used my email address as the reply to in the spam itself. So I was being flooded (about 10 emails a minute) with bounce backs from the mail servers the spammers where spamming.

A filter could have prevented me from seeing the bounce-backs but my dsl line (I hosted my own mail server at home) would still be flooded from all the incoming emails.

Gotcha. That happened to me with my Earthlink account way back when, and I had to delete the address. You may be able to kill the account for a month or so, and open it back up when all the bouncing has finished Either way, IT SUCKS!

Just delete your MX record for the domain for a while. Once all the SMTP servers contacting you mail server realize that there is no MX record for that domain they will give up. Usually take 3-7 days. In the meantime check your PM.

Deleting the MX record was my first step of action then removing the domain from the list of allowed rcpt to on the email server was the second step. The hardest part was figuring out whether or not I had to restart Exchange to get everything to take effect

I am debating wether or not to change the new domain mail host record to a different IP but I don't think I need to go that far right now. Everything seems good but my inbox sure is lonely with out all the normal junk I get.

Techie conference trail run would be cool only if I could bring my flux capacitor and my asortment of stuffed penguins (can you say geek? or should it be jeek?)
