The First Day of the Rest of My Life

Well, all good things eventually come to an end. Today marks the first day of retirement for me. After 20 years of service to the City of Victorville, it's time to call it quits. It felt very weird not going to work this morning. Now, however, I can already feel the stress leaving. It feels like 2 sacks of cement have been lifted off my shoulder.

I wanted to work at least another five years, but now is the time to go. I'm not one to sit around the house. If I did, LeAnne would strangle me - I'm sure of it.

I've been offered a job with a private company, I don't know if it will actually happen, I don't know if I want it. We'll see how it plays out.

Weekday runs will be nice! I bet I know of a few MJR members that would go with me!

Roger, congratulations. I remember that first Monday well. It was really nice not to go in to work. There was some talk a couple of years ago to go back and help on something and I said NO, BUT THANKS FOR ASKING. I don't miss the work, but I do miss a lot of the folk I worked with for so many years.

My Dad retired recently. He's been so busy since then, he commented to me, "I don't know how on earth I ever had the time to work!"

I am heading to Malibu this AM to have lunch with a group of us who used to eat lunch together daily at work. We called ourselves the Lunch Bunch. We get together in Malibu every 3-4 months.

That's how my father stayed in touch with his former co-workers. It was probably the only way he stayed sane.
