  • YJ Gods Please Read

I'll keep it simple: We have a 93 YJ with Spring Over Axle Kit, 2" Lift Springs, Boomerang Shackle in the rear and stock height shackle in the front. The Jeep is too high and we would like to lower it by replacing the springs and not change the spring over kit.

What leaf spring kit would you recommend? Should we go stock springs from factory or is there an afermarket option that will provide better flex?

    Thank you YJ Gods!

I run SOA with stock yj springs with an extra main leaf stuck in there and they run just about flat on my cj3b and they flex pretty good. I did run into some spring wrap so i added a traction bar to solve that.

I understand RE or Deaver has a set of 1 1/2" made for SOA. You can re-stack some stock springs and get good results while also fighting axle wrap.

RE has a decent kit for the YJ. The stock springs will flop out in short order. SOA is generally a poor design. What does your jeep have to prevent axle wrap? Are the shocks long enough to allow full flex of the springs you have on there now?
How was your steering addressed to allow a SOA lift to work and prevent ridiculous amounts of bump steer?

We currently do not have any problems with axle wrap nor do we have anything to prevent it. We do have the high steer system that goes over the leaf springs. The shocks are the exact length of the leaf spring at full extension. My concern is not with what we have, it's what we're trying to accomplish. We want to lower the Jeep, it's too high. That's why I was asking if we should go with stock springs or a different set. The springs on there now are 2" lifted but I'm not sure what brand they are.

I told him just sell the damn thing and get a TJ

Find stock springs, wouldn't that be easy or make up some spring packs. It's easy and cheap

I'm thinking Stock Springs 6-pack for the rear and the standard 4-pack for the front should be ok right Art?
...aside from that why aren;t you at the Hammers you crazy guy?

Was there through Thursday, worked my ass off.
Today it's tinkertime on my buggy.
Depending what you all plan on doing with the xj springs are nice and flexy and give you a stretch.
By the way, do you have more pics of your Hammerdown adventure?

It's actually a YJ we're working on, not the XJ. The XJ flexes like a monster.
I do have more pics but it's all in the dark

I know you are working on a YJ.
xj springs are longer and flex better, you would have to either stretch it or just move spring mounts, but it would start flexing like a boneless hooker

                            I LIKES!!!

Since XJ Springs are only in the rear, I'm assuming I use the same springs for the front of the YJ as well?

The YJ springs have the pins centered, so you can run fronts and rears swapped. If XJ springs are centered, you can run a set on either end and will be stretched an equal length- front and back. The gas tank is really the only limit in the back. With 2 1/2" SUA springs and a D44 located 1/2" back, I just scrape the paint on my tank cover and diff cover. On the front, if you stretch it about 3" forward it looks like you can flip the panhard bar and the tie rod to get them 3" forward. This will max out the front D/S yoke though.
