Hitches

What kind of hitch should I buy? I have a 98 XJ stock, I won't be doing much towing but if I do it won't be over 4,000 lbs I believe. I like to have a little bit overkill for surprise situations but do not want to pay a overkill price? Any ideas, class 1,2,3 hitches?
