  • Bumper Thickness

im looking at front bumpers for my cherokee and found one for a decent price. 2"x5"x3/16" I really dont know what the 2"x5" means but i know 3/16. Is that too thin for a front bumper? should i be looking more at 1/4? i think 3/8 is a little over kill, but any thoughts, or experience with bumper strength is appriciated. Thanks,

the 2x5 should be the rectangle size of the bumper like 2x4 as in lumber and the 3/16 is the thickness of the metal used. most bumper are made from 120 wall which is 1/8 inch thick so 3/16 should be fine unless you plan on ramming it into a lot of stuff

I make my stuff out of 2x5 3/16th, but I'm thinking about trying out some 1/8th, just to see how it will old up.

I made the winch tray and mounting brakets out of 1/4" plate and the rest of my bumper out of 3/16th. Same strength, less weight.
