  • 24 volt winch

Anyone know if a guy can either convert or otherwise run a 24 volt Warn Industrial winch off a 12 volt Jeep system? Thanks for any input.

Sure - but the second battery and creative switching necessary would be pretty cost intense. You would have to create a circuit (with heavy duty solenoids or industrial relays) to make it a parallel 12V system for normal driving and charging, then have the batteries switch to series operation to run the winch.

Pop up to my office at LAX - I'll sketch it out on the white board

Tom Ewing at Warn says you have to convert the motor and control pack to 12 volt...make any sense?

That would certainly work. Twice as much ampere load at 12V (why Uncle Sam runs 24V), but would make it a "normal" winch. You need to balance the cost of replacing the motor (and solenoids) vs buying a new winch.

I'll check into what the cost would run - the winch is a "free-bee", but did work before it was pulled off the rig.
