yea.. i use the stick on weights too, but my wheel balancing problems come into play when the wheel rotates inside the tire. soooo what i do is mark the tire with a paint pen at the valve stem so i can tell if this has happened.
oh, by the way.. i have indeed lost the hammer on style weights.. often, in the rocks.

Wash? What does that mean? Is that what happens when you hit the water crossing too fast?
Chris, America's Tire in San Pedro has the stick on weights.....just gotta ask for 'em. Come to think of it, the place down in Torrance has them too.....they put them on my old truck because there was no lip on the wheels to use the others.
If the front-end vibrating your teeth out at road speeds isn't the first clue to a wheel being outta balance, I dunno what is....
But seriously, most peeps I know either use stick-on weights or hav enever lost a clip-on weight in their lives while off-roading, myself included.

Also, keep in mind that if you lose a wheel weight adn rebalance the tire in question, you are probably gonna need more weight than you had when the tire was new due to tire wear over the life of the tire. I work around heavy trucks a lot and am constantly trying to explain this to truckers that just b/c you balanced the tires when they were new and they took x-amount of weight does NOT mean they are gonna need the same amount of weight when they get rebalanced after X-mileage.
Well, what I do is mark the outside of the wheel weight with a Sharpie. This way you know if you have either lost a wheel weight or if one has moved. If you have black wheels, I found that one of those White out pens work pretty good to outline the weight on black wheels.
