    This was discussed at length a while back.

    Most of the talk revolves around MIG welders as they are a bit easier to use.

    Many people will say learn to weld with gas first as it teaches the basics of managing the weld puddle and is fairly cheap to start. Also, every needs a cutting torch eventually, no?

    If you go with a 220 volt machine, you may need to rewire the garage. The AC machines are cheap for sure, but have pretty crummy duty cycles (20%?). If you would like some real fun, try this, an alternator welder, 100% duty cycle!

    new welder??

    Looking to get an arc welder, perhaps lincoln electric AC-225. how many amps should i look for if i want to be welding stuff for my car:bumpers, skid plates that sort of stuff? I want it to be decent price but have enough juice so i wont get screwed for not being strong enough.

    any welders knowledge is appriciated
