header/downpipe flange bolts...

After a trip last weekend it sounded like I'd cracked another exhaust manifold. got out the flashlight to find the crack/leak and discovered that I'd lost the nuts off the bolts holding the header and downpipe together, musta been coming loose a long time.

I had some 3/8ths 20 grade 8 nuts and bolts handy so I installed 'em.

Is there a certain grade bolt that should be used for this application due to the heat considerations??? Really the question is... anything wrong with using grade 8 here???:confused:

I use regular grade 2 bolts (the cheapies). I doubt there would be any problem with grade 8's.

You could try deformed thread lock nuts.

The 3/8 fine thread should resist vibration as well.

3/8s come in 16 or 24 tpi. 20 sounds like Brian engineering to me

I was looking through a bunch of hardware, maybe the 20 was from something else... it was fine regardless. :yay:

Al, I was thinkin' maybe the "softer" grades would give more with temp changes making them a better choice. I guess I'll leave the stuff in there and see what happens.
