Newbie looking for advice from the seasoned members....

Can i safely run 33" x 12.50 BFG Mudds with a Dana 35 axle? I have a 2000 TJ Sport with 3.5" lift. My concern is can a Dana 35 axle (factory limited slip) support the force/weight of the 33" tires. It will see day to day freeway driving and occasional mild off road use (with young kids I don't do anything too rough or extreme).
I have seen conflicting answers to this question. My hope is some of you who lived with the same set up can tell me your success/horror stories. Is it do-able? Will it work, or wil I be looking for a new axle in a week. Any thoughts or opinions from those who might know?

    Thanks in advance.....

If you have an open real differential you should be fine. I ran like that for a while and I was wheeling all the time. I do have a very light foot on the gas pedal though. May be worth picking up a used spare axle shaft from some just in case...

I ran a dana 35 for 2 years with 33's and a detroit. never broke an axle till i went to 35's. But have seen way to many people break theres on the trail so i always carried a spare set of shafts. Then I upgraded to a 8.8 rear end.

Run it till it breaks! I ran a 35 with 35s for almost two years, never broke it, always carry spare shafts, high lift jack, tools and it will never break. Leave those at home and watch shafts go flying. Find out your driving style first. Learn to wheel what you have. This will keep you from building your jeep 10 diffrent ways.

with 33's it'll last a while as long as your not heavy on the skinny pedal all the time. 35's are pushing it wheelin. For street use only you'd probably be fine for a long time. First thing to go will probably be the spider gears grenading so keep some spares of those. If you look around you can find people giving complete dana35's away. Pick one of these up and you have spare everything.
