zj help please

i have a 96 zj with a qudratrac in it. i think its f'ed up. are there any other options as far as what transfercase i can go with. and when i say that i mean bolt in. i have the v8 model its a 96 grand cherokee. i would just like to swap it to a transfer case with select 4wd. i dont know much about the wiring and linkages so if u guys post up a possible swap a little tech info would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

You have a 249 with a viscous coupler.

The 2 easiest and most common swaps are the 231 or the 242. The 231 is part time only and the 242 has both part time and full time options. They can be direct swaps if they have the right input shaft spline count and length. You want 23 spline count. There were 3 different length input shafts used. If you get the wrong shaft then the shafts have to be swapped. If you have to swap shafts you need to make sure the cut patterns are the same. Last would be to find the proper bezel.

yeah i finally found some tech info last night it was the same links u posted. im gonna have brother brother do the 231 swap. i would do it myself but for the price theyre giving me id rather not mess with it. plus i dont want to hunt down the parts im too lazy. thanks for the help though i appreciate it. just curios what t case do u have in yours. u have the black pearl the jimmy did right?
