so have any of you done an 8.8 swap on your rig. if so send me pics or if your local maybe i can see how you did it. i live in phelan. now when i re gear do i just have to change ring and pinion or what else is involved. i called 4 west and they told me it would be like 1800 to re gear. i know that i can get it done cheaper. what do you guys think? what all is involved and what way should i go about doing this.

A simple re-gear only, no locker, shafts or carrier, should cost around $1,100 for part and labor, front and rear.

Installation only 675$ additional—total front & rear in vehicle and 225$ if you bring me only the two housings!

A few months ago I paid
$145 for a ring and pinion gear.
$100 for an install kit (all bearings and seals)
$180 for labor (with the axle out of the Jeep.

I was replacing my gears because I broke a tooth on the ring gear. But the appeal of the Ford 8.8 is not just that it is a strong axle. We also like 8.8s because they are readily available in stock gear ratios. If you check out fordification.com they have all the information that you need to identify an 8.8 in the junkyard. If you do it right you should be able to find an 8.8 with disk brakes and an open carrier with the right gear-set in it. That way you can spend your money on fun stuff like a truss and maybe a locker. The poor boy setup is ideally a 8.8 out of an explorer and an high pinion Dana 30 out of a 4 cylinder wrangler. The guys at NAXJA would probably know for sure but I think a HP Dana 30 out of a TJ will bolt right into your XJ.

Read down more. But, sounds now like the total price is $310!

IF YOU BRING ME YOUR AXLE(S) OUT OF THE VEHICLE, I WILL DO COMPLETE GEAR INSTALL ON EACH AXLE FOR 125$!

Nothing against Rick and the guys at 4 West but they tend to be pricey.
