Bought a new piece of recovery gear!
I found this in practically brand new shape online for less than a third of retail. While it may not be as glamorous as a winch, a simple bottle jack can be a key piece of recovery equipment.
This was the case on my last trip to Big Bear where we ran into a stock Ford Ranger that had high centered itself fairly badly. We got the front axle up using a 2 ton floor jack that the driver had in the bed. Man, that sucker was quick but heavy! Caster wheels don't do to well in the sand either.
We used the OEM worm screw bottle jack out of the XJ to get the rear up as there was no room for the floor jack. We shoved rocks under raised tires and the 6-8" that the jacks gave us allowed the Ranger to drive off unscathed.
The OEM Jeep screw jack is a fairly rugged piece of workmanship but man it is slow and hard work. I sifted around and found this gem that will give a ram travel of almost a foot! To boot it is hydraulic which means no sweat expended either! Best of all, this jack is an OEM piece of equipment! Go to your local pick-n-pull and grab it!
Kudos to the first person who posts what vehicle to look inside to find this most awesome bottle jack.
