  • Trail Report: Gold mtn. Run this sunday trail report

Well folks it was another interesting day on the trails in Big Bear. There were three rigs total and Gold Mountain had its usual spots where it was fun as did John bull. That is until I ripped the front track bar mount right out of the frame and took out an outer axle on the front thanks to a broken u-joint.

A nice hole in the frame

Hmmm,... this does me a lot of good now...

    Justa hangin down...

After being winched out of this wonderful situation it was quite a challenge driving this thing with next to no steering and no 4 wheel drive at that point either. Good thing for the detroit locker in the rear. It was very clear that due to the nature of damages my rig was not leaving Big Bear and thanks to some great friends of mine that live there I was loaned a pickup truck to get home and will be up there next saterday with new parts and ready to weld the bracket back into the nice gapping hole in my frame. Oh well, as you can see from my avatar the "green monster" has been through much worse....MATT

          Matt,

Glad it wasn't more serious. It would be very cold having to sleep with your rig out there on the trail.

Yepp, I jinxed myself. The trackbar mount on the frame upon inspection had some cracks that were there for some time (the stress has to go someplace?) so it was already weak. I already have the u-joint and outer axle shaft so that is good. Now to weld and also re-enforce the track bar bracket to the frame so it wont happen again. And yes, Mr. Bashian, get a welder for your rig. Had there been one things would have been VERY different.

Yes, things would have been different if you hadn't tried to show off in front of those Land Rovers..........JEEP: Just Expect Every Problem.

Matt just doesn't seem like the "Show Off" kinda guy! YEA RIGHT

Make it stronger and then do it again. Someone needs to show those Land Rovers.

Look at it this way, now you have a really cool secret hiding spot to smuggle stuff in. Are you sure those big ol' Swamppers didn't have something to do with that? Too bad you didn't do that on Saturday. We were up on Holcomb working. I would have come over to point and laugh...

Glad you made it out alive Matt.

Kurt to be honest, thats the first thing that went through my mind.It was only the second time out on those tires but yes Super swamper boggers that size or bigger are very well known for being "BREAKERS" they break axles u-joints and so on. That front track bar bracket that ripped out of the frame was already cracked (after close inspection that was apparent) and well, like I said. Even though im easy on the gas and an auto trans the stress has to go someplace.
Thats ok because after saterday it wont matter anymore it will be fixed and better than the way it was trust me.
